There are several features which make this so suitable for mining crypto-currencies

a. The air cooling fans flow from the AC input to the DC output; which is the same configuration as the majority of miners. This proves critical for those with large mining operations, where heat management is a key problem to contend with.

b. The PCB board uses a conformal coating to prevent damage from discharges on MOS pins, or near high pressure solder joints when external conductive particles and/or dust enter the PSU.

c. The APW3 can work in environments with a 50°C ambient temperature. If temperatures exceed 50°C, the PSU should be under-clocked (refer to Max Load vs Ambient Temperature diagram in the user guide). Considering the temperature in mining operations, all internal components are selected to withstand temperatures of 105°C, so the APW3 is far more durable than general PSU's under similar or higher temperatures.

d. The APW3 uses PCI-E connectors which are compatible with currently available ATX PSUs, as well as most Bitcoin mining hardware. One APW3 is powerful enough to power two AntMiner S5s simultaneously.

The energy efficiency translates to big cost savings – compared to many power supplies running at 83% efficiency, when the APW3-12-1600 running at 94% efficiency; assuming an electricity cost of £0.18 per kWh, a user could save more than $230 per year in electricity bills.
